What Does a Vasectomy Reversal Cost?

Vasectomy reversal costs can vary significantly, ranging from $1500 to over $20,000. The average cost for a microsurgical vasectomy reversal performed by leading urologic experts typically falls between $9,000 and $16,000, although some providers may charge over $20,000 for the same procedure with similar outcomes.

While some doctors offer vasectomy reversals at lower prices, it’s crucial to ask, “What compromises are made to achieve those lower costs?” Is your surgeon a Urologist? Are they fellowship trained in microsurgery and male fertility? Do they use a surgical microscope? Do they offer general anesthesia or just local numbing medication? At Central Coast Men’s Health, we ensure you receive the most advanced, precision microsurgical vasectomy reversal available.

In addition to excellent surgical outcomes, at Central Coast Men’s Health we provide a dedicated “Patient Navigator” to guide you through every step, from initial contact to achieving a successful pregnancy. Frequently Asked Questions

  • A vasectomy reversal, also known as vasovasostomy or vasoepididymostomy, is a surgical procedure that reverses your previous vasectomy. During the surgery, the vas deferens (the tube that carries sperm outside your body) is reconnected, allowing sperm to enter the semen and ejaculate once again. Thus, a vasectomy reversal restores your fertility.

  • At Central Coast Men's Health, we’ve worked hard to keep procedure costs as low as possible while strictly maintaining quality patient care. The cost of a vasectomy reversal is $8995 regardless of the complexity of your surgery (for example, prior surgeries, length of time since your vasectomy, etc.) and initial consultation is free. This fee is all inclusive so there are no surprises, including:

    • Pre-operative blood testing

    • Surgeon fee

    • Anesthesia fee

    • Surgery center facility fee

    • Testicular sperm retrieval for cryopreservation (excluding storage fees) if desired

    • All post-operative care related to your surgery

    • Two post-operative semen analyses

    • The personal cell phone number of Dr. Mills for any post-operative questions and concerns

Additionally, we accept credit cards, checks, cash, and Care Credit. In-house financing is available, with 92% of applicants securing approval using a current pay stub within minutes.

  • Successful vasectomy reversals require extensive training, preferably in Urologic surgery, and specialized experience in microsurgery. A physician should perform at least 20 vasectomy reversals annually to maintain expert proficiency. In contrast, most general Urologists perform only 0 to 2 such procedures a year, raising questions about their proficiency in this highly technical field.

Dr. Steve Mills is among the top 5% of Urologists in the US with specialized microsurgical training. He regularly performs vasectomy reversals, ensuring his technical skills remain sharp. When choosing a male fertility specialist, it’s essential to inquire about their experience and the number of vasectomy reversals they perform. For Dr. Mills, these demanding procedures are a routine part of his practice.

  • While every patient is different, typical post-op pain after a vasectomy reversal is very similar to the pain after the original vasectomy surgery. Normal symptoms include soreness and slight swelling and bruising of the scrotal area. Most men do not require prescription pain medications, and those that do typically do not require them for more than 1-3 days.

  • It is recommended you wait at least three weeks after the surgery before resuming your normal sex life.

  • Sex after vasectomy reversal should remain the same. Some men even find their sexual life enhanced after vasectomy reversal because it's "the real thing".

  • No, men do not stop producing sperm after a vasectomy. Your body will continue to make sperm – it simply is unable to exit your body, which prevents pregnancy from occurring. External factors that could decrease or cease prior sperm production include testosterone replacement therapy, exposure to high doses of radiation or extensive chemotherapy among other reasons.

  • Yes! It is possible to have a successful vasectomy reversal even 10 or 20 years after the original procedure. Dr. Mills has successfully reversed vasectomies performed as long as 30 years ago, with some patients achieving pregnancy within just a few months.

The potential for a successful reversal after many years depends on the quality of the original vasectomy and the expertise of the reversal surgeon. Many Urologists perform only a few reversals each year, so it’s crucial to choose a specialized microsurgeon like Dr. Mills, who performs these procedures regularly.
